SWIFTSURE 2000
MAY 27-28
The ROYAL VICTORIA YACHT CLUB invites multihull owners to participate in the year 2000 Swiftsure starting on Saturday, May 27, 2000. This event is a 101.6 NM race from Victoria’s waterfront to Cape Flattery and return. It is usually an overnight race, but has been finished in daylight hours in years past.

For owners of Corsair trimarans, the event is category B towards scoring for the coveted Corsair Cup and the Farrier Cup, and West Coast competitors are encouraged to attend. The multihull fleet will again have its own start, and compete for its own trophies. The keeper trophies are hand crafted native carvings that will look good on any wall.

The City of Victoria offers free moorage from Tuesday May 23 to race day to encourage participation, and hosts a 5 day Harbor Festival leading up to the race. Thursday and Friday see participants enjoying the famous barge party with food, music, and dance. Friday night is also the opportunity for last year’s winners to be acknowledged and pick up their trophies.

Hardy racers may be interested in the feeder race from Astoria, Oregon (leaves May 11, 2000 and arrives in Victoria two or three days later). If interested, please contact the RVYC for details. Crews are greeted with hot toddies and warm towels after this rugged trip. This is a favorite for about 15 yachts from the Portland area each spring, and most stay in the Gulf Islands for summer cruising after the Swiftsure.

An official NOTICE OF RACE will be sent to anyone expressing an interest. Entry fee is a paltry $100 USD, which is kept low by the active volunteers in the club, and the generosity of our official sponsors.
