Bamahamians and Bamahemians!
Weather permitting, how about we cruise to China Camp again on November 9-10 weekend? Prime Directive might stay 2 nights (Sat & Sun) since Monday is a holiday (Veterans' Day). "Mr. Heater," Prime Directive's little propane heater will come along to keep her cabin warm as needed.
Randy and Sandy Devol of Joint Venture have signed up. Any other experienced cruisers or wanna-be-cruisers? Hello...Three Sigma, Sea Bird, Escape, Flying Bye, Antares, Triple Play, WindTrekker (still in So. CA?), Humdinger, Buster!
Hey how about you BIG BOATS? Feet (Hughes 39), Mood Indigo (Gemini 105), Devoras (Kantola 38), Full House (Gemini 3000)?
We'd love to meet these brand new members with big Cats (you can give your fellow members a great Cruising Cats show):
Bebe L'amour (Lagoon 410)
New Focus (Catana 431)
Perception (Kronos 45)
Hibiscus (Admiral 47)
Double Play (Gemini 105)
Water Bug (Iroquois MK II)
Please let others know on the list if you're thinking of joining the cruise. Dave and I are hoping to spend some good times with old friends and make new ones!!! Cheers, Tint

Folks who can't make it by sail are welcome to join by your land-yacht for a late Saturday afternoon potluck, say between 4:30 & 5:00? Let us know so we will look for you. Flap your arms vigorously or we'll designate a VHF channel to communicate so you can call a dinghy-taxi for pick up.

Tint & China Camp Cruisers:
Thanks for the great organizing effort! I will volunteer Perception as a dinner boat. I have a smallish rail type BBQ outside plus a 4 burner propane stove and oven, inside. I will plan to be off China Camp at 4:00. I would suggest channel 71 for communications. We used it for the Catnip Cup and it was OK - not much other traffic. I will scan 71 and 16 for BAMA traffic and suggest others monitor as well. If someone needs to contact Perception or the group by cell they can use 925-699-0051.
If it is OK with the others we can raft up the bigger boats, Perception, Bebe L'Amour and Devoras and have a party platform with the other boats rafted outside. Anyone needing a water taxi can hail Perception.
I called the park and they have about 5 BBQ pits, as they call them, in the upper parking lot at the main village which they call Point Something (?). Ranger Mathew advises that there should be some BBQs available for Saturday night, generally not busy, and maybe Sunday, which is busier. The park closes at sunset (about 6:00) and Mathew will advise his partner, Pat, that we (BAMA) may be using the BBQ with 20 to 25 people. He sounded flexible on timing and was very accommodating since we would be leaving to go back to the boats. I will have some charcoal and lighter fluid. I expect they have picnic tables as well since they use this area for weddings.
There is a pier off the village to tie dinghies to and you climb up a ladder to get to the top of the pier. Or you can pull up on the beach. I found a picture of the beach and pier at http://www.epinions.com/park-Parks-All-CA-China_Camp_State_Park# Click it to enlarge. I saw a program last weekend about China Camp. I think it was Bay Area Backroads, There is one shrimp fisherman left who lives there and still catches bay shrimp each day. Here are some links if anyone is interested.

It should be a fun cruise.

Tint:
I anchored at China Camp after the Memorial Day Cruise (Freeze) Out. Close to shore its too shallow for me, I draw 4' and like a safe margin so I like 10 to 15 feet of water. A couple of tris anchored in close and dragged.
There is deeper water (I think it was 12' to 14') directly off the pier. This is where I anchored and found good holding in mud. Further out it gets shallow then deeper. There was another group with a lot of boats anchored further out than Perception. Most or them apparently stopped as they came in thinking the bottom gradually got deeper and never got in close.
FEET anchored in front of me and we both seemed to hold well.
I was impressed with China Camp. There is stuff to do on shore, a place to tie up the dinghy, little wind, reasonably calm water and nice scenery. It was a lot warmer and clear compared to the fog, cold and wind at Clipper Cove. I expect there are some BBQ's on the beach that we could use but I do not remember.
I suggest that we try to BBQ on the beach and get everyone together on land for socializing. If we get some of the bigger boats together in a raft up we could get a lot of the smaller boats rafted up without the risk of someone getting flattened in between. Maybe Bob and I can start a raft up and if others join we can break our record of 5 boats. For those without dinghies I would be happy to contribute my dinghy with outboard for water taxi service.
I will check out the availability of BBQ's and when the park closes, if you want. Maybe someone already knows.

Tint and fellow cruisers
FEET anchored about 5o yards off the end of the pier in about 10-12 feet of water. This depth extended into about 25 yards from the pier and to around 75 yards from rat island. It got deeper as you go east toward the rest of the anchorage. Holding was mud and I didn't drag with gust to 18 or so. I use a 44 LB Bruce anchor with 30 feet of 3/8's chain attached to rode and bridle. The area provides the peace and quite I crave and easy access to shore.

Photo Opportunities!
I will be out and about from about 1:00 PM Saturday, 11/9, heading up to China Camp from Marina Bay in Richmond. I will have my digital camera and take photos of the parade of multihulls headed to China Camp as you fly by. If you want to hail me use VHF 71, as Tint mentions below. I will probably hang out north of the Richmond Bridge until a group gathers and then head for the anchorage. I will bring my laptop so we can sort out who is who Saturday Night. I will email the photos to you so you have them for posterity.
I count 13 boats on the Member's Page and Tint is looking for information on 20 boats for the newsletter. Get a photo on the way, or at, China Camp and join the newsletter and members page.
