4th Annual Lake Tahoe Harmonic Convergence
Marlette Lake Flume Trail - July 4th

Our snow pack ended up at ~85% of normal so anticipate 3 boat launches with overnight parking that will be usable. The ramps at the Tahoe Keys (South Shore-free on street parking), Meeks Bay (West Shore), and the Coast Guard Ramp at Dollar Point (North shore) are accessible in the worst drought years. Last year one of the 27's launched at the Coast Guard Ramp, the coasties came out and talked to him, offering advice on where to go. They never asked about his "stealth 2-stroke motor". I've never seen or heard of any sailboats with 2-strokes being stopped, so not to worry. Traditionally fireworks at "user friendly Kings Beach" North Shore, (1 fireworks barge) on July 3rd, South East shore Casinos (3 barges on July 4th- billed as largest fireworks display west of the Mississippi!), and Homewood, Northwest shore, (2 barges, the audience favorite last year as the fireworks echo off the mountains there, BOOm-Boom!) on July 5th.
Here is Fred Cox's write up from last year...
We will update when we can get in after May 1st. Look under launching for particulars on cost, etc... The Trans-Tahoe Race is July 12th this year and we already have 6 24-2's verbally committed! Really need to get there the night before, anchoring off Tahoe City isn't possible. You can see the bottom clearly as it is only 20-40 feet deep but its cement like there and won't hold a hook. Contact us off list or check out (need to join) the f-242owners@yahoogroups.com to see the consensus recommendations. Andrew Pitcairn - Pegasus, believe we saw a post to volunteer to crew earlier this year, contact us.
We are trying to organize a group to ride the world famous Marlette Lake Flume Trail. It has been written up in Mountain Bike Magazine as one of the 10 most beautiful rides in the world. It starts at Spooner Summit/Lake, 5 mile ride (push for me) up to Marlette Lake then comes out on the East Side of Lake Tahoe about 1200-1400 feet above (looking straight down on Whitell's Thunderbird Lodge, and the Deepest Tahoe Blue!), then an easy 9 mile single track descent (the flume is literally carved out of the side of the mountain), incredible views the whole 9 miles, to Incline Village. There is a bike rental at the trailhead, and a shuttle to take you back. The best view is in the morning; we usually take 4 to 5 hours and really enjoy the view. There are a couple of meadows on the way up and Gail can tell you the names of all the wild flowers. We'd like to organize beforehand as we are generally very spread out once we get to the lake. It is rated as an intermediate but I have taken folks who have not ridden a bicycle since Eisenhower was president and they have made it! You will never forget the spectacular scenery of this ride.
Also, want to try and organize a day hike out of Emerald Bay into the Desolation Wilderness Area. There are a series of waterfalls going up the canyon; they are roaring as mountains are still snow packed that early in the year. Vikingsholm, the most authentic Scandinavian Castle outside of Scandinavia is at the foot of Emerald Bay. It has hourly tours. Helmsley Mansion at Sugar Pine Point has hourly tours also. Beautiful scenery abounds, so c'mon up and join your fellow tri's at the Harmonic Convergence (I really love that name!) "the crown jewel of the Sierra's" as Mark Twain called it. Anyone interested in flying in and joining the fleet? We're sure we can find room for you. Start making plans now!
