Just a reminder to everyone that one of the best places to spend your July is at Lake Tahoe! There will be plenty of fireworks, great sailing, and great cruising over the 4th of July weekend. The Trans Tahoe race is the following weekend, July 9-11 and has a multihull start finally! Kevin Gammel and friends are organizing an F-24 class start. Contact him if interested. The NOR and Tahoe Yacht Club info are at: http://www.tahoeyc.com/sail/tt.html. The format for the 4th is typically: 1) Anchor and party in Kings Beach July 3rd for Fireworks. Short but nice display...usually a single barge of fireworks. Anchorage is in shallow water and you can walk ashore to restrooms, resteraunts and to go shopping. 2) Raft up and BBQ at Edgewood Golf Course (Stateline) for an AMAZING 3 barge, 45 minute, fireworks show. No overnight shore accomodations so bring what you need. 3) Maybe fireworks at Homewood on the 5th. Not sure what is happening there yet this year. The trip from Kings Beach back to South Shore usually consists of spelunking along the east shore of Lake Tahoe. This shore is undisturbed by development and consists of many small harbors, HUGE granite rocks and some of the prettiest scenery to be found at any sailing destination. Be forwarned that the East Shore of Tahoe is also home to many clothing optional beaches, so after Sand Harbour, you might want to enjoy the sailing farther off shore (or closer) :) Besides those 3 things, days consist of lazily playing in the water and beaches in Emerald Bay, pleasure cruising and high altitude sailing in crystal clear water! Last year, Kevin arranged a mountain bike trip along the Flume Trail of the East Shore. There are also many other activities such as Horse back rides, kayaking, white water rafting....you name it. Its a great vacation! We have a nice little fleet of f-boats up here now consisting of 3-24's, 3-27's (welcome to new owner Joe Boll f-27 escape) and 1-28CC. We will have one 24 up from Arizona so far. If you are interested in comming up, let us know and we can find accomodations and such, and plan more events or get togethers. Its not organized yet, but it would be nice to have a BBQ the night before the Trans Tahoe with all the f'rs. Dale Paul F-28CC Sera Luna NAC28CA Sec/Treas. |
