On-The-Beach-BBQ:  The On-The-Beach Pot Luck BBQ will be the afternoon of July 3rd, at the western end of Emerald Bay, across the creek from Vikingsholm.

Fireworks:  That is the real reason we're all coming, right?  July 4 at South Lake Tahoe and at Tahoe City; July 5 at Homewood; dates undetermined at Kings Beach and Incline Village (maybe the 3rd or 5th).

South Lake Tahoe is obviously much closer to Emerald Bay.  It usually has a somewhat more extravagant show than Tahoe City (although theirs is no slouch by any standards!).  The downside is that everyone in the world who has access to a boat will be out there with you.  Plan to fend off all evening, OR...go shallow:

This year, I intend to arrive in the afternoon, raise the board & rudder, motor in close to the beach - to 24" or less depth (soft sand bottom here), and anchor - for the night.  We'll BBQ, drink, watch the fireworks from a front row seat (can you spell "visceral", boys and girls?), drink, shake the ashes out of our hair, drink, and drift off to sleep while the rest of the world is playing bumper cars out on the lake.

The water is very shallow for several hundred yards offshore all along the south shore.  This, and the southerly/ southwesterly winds in this area, make for some comfortably warm, usually flat water.  Pup-tents on the nets become less of a survival thing, and evening breezes can be quite balmy.  Usually.

Homewood:  The July 5 fireworks show at Homewood is downright cozy by comparison, and great fun for that very reason.  Anchor just outside the buoy fields or just drift offshore if beyond anchoring depth.

There will be a group boat (or two) to visit the South Shore Fireworks Display on Thursday, July 4th.
