This weekend is Opening Day on the Bay, what a great time to have a raft-up.  After the boat show Don and I are heading to Richardson Bay by Sausalito.  We think we will be getting there about 5:00.  We'll throw out the hook across from Margaritaville and depending on the weather go ashore for a margarita or two and dinner.  Let us know if you want to join us for the raft-up or just for dinner.  We will be monitoring Channel 68 while on the boat or you can call us on my cell phone, (408) 390-6303, if you are on land.  If you are rafting-up and want to donate your boat for a Daysail on Sunday please reply to the list.  Hope to see you all there.

Terri

Margaritaville is located at 1200 Bridgeway in Sausalito. The number is (415) 331-3226.

Memorial Day Weekend/Angel Island

Looks like Napa can't accommodate us for the Memorial Day weekend.  The vote is in for Angel Island.  Arrive Friday night or Sat., BBQ, go for a day-sail, hike, relax.  Double Play and crew will be there, so if you want to raft-up for a day or the weekend let us know.  The weather looks like it's going to be great for a beer at Sam's.  Sail in or ferry in and have a BBQ by the beach.

Looks like Double Play will arrive Sat.  We'll be in the cove... monitoring channel 16 when we're on the boat.  We have a BBQ on board if anyone is interested in joining us for lunch/dinner.  We'll be there through Monday.  Party on Sat. night.  After we prove we're party animals we can try to outdo ourselves on Sunday.  Give us a call (408-390-6303) if you plan on stopping by as we might be out for a day sail if we aren't expecting visitors.  I hope you all take advantage of the long weekend and go cruising!!

Remember that the island empties of people with the last ferry (about 5:00PM) and the BBQs, picnic tables and everything else is available until sundown at about 8:00.  The deer & raccoons come out at twilight.  It's great for kids, even big ones.  You have the island to yourself.  It's a great location and there is always room.  Don & Terri know all the tricks for getting a mooring.

I have Double Play, Devoras & Perception (7 hulls) to test the strength of the moorings at Angel Is.  Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Fourth of July on the Delta
July 3-5, 2003

KBOOMer, Jeff Eastman on Bebe L'amour (Lagoon 41) and family plan to do the 4th again this year at Mandeville Tip. We are planning the delta again this year, leaving Tuesday and returning on Sunday.

Last year the fireworks were great and the madhouse surrounding the raftups was entertaining.

Looks like this year's list includes;

There are ways to have folks meet you close to Mandeville if they want to join you without the sail up to the delta which is the greatest ride on the bay, in my opinion.  To be fair, coming back is probably the worst.  Jeff Eastman is the expert on where to meet people and dinghy them over.  I think it was Herman and Helen's.

It looks like 4 boats will raft up at Mandeville Tip in the Delta for the 4th of July fireworks.

Bob Naber will join the cruise by land yacht on the fourth.

I think Bebe is already there and has staked out a spot, as they did last year.

The rest are leaving Thursday, sailing to Sherman Island to overnight at Martin's Marina and then on to Mandeville Friday morning. VHF 71 is the comm. channel. Cell phone will probably work as well.

This is a link to an article on the 4th at Mandeville - http://www.storage.fiestafanatic.com/bama/bamadelta4thofjuly.html

  1. Bebe L'amour, Lagoon 41. Jeff Eastman & family, definite, leaving Tuesday and returning on Sunday.
  2. Three Sigma, F27, Chris Harvey + ?, definite, I think.  Or plan is to sail up from Alameda, possibly with a stopover at Benicia, returning at 55 knots all the way home. ;-)
  3. Double Play, Gemini 105, Don Parker & Terri Johnson, "It's a go!"
  4. Perception, Kronos 45, Glenn Fagerlin, definite,  Sail with kids and their families to Sherman Is. on Thursday, arrive at Mandeville Friday AM, return Sunday.

Here is a photo of the Mandeville Tip (PDF) area with the locations of things highlighted.

I am going to pick up Bob Naber at Herman and Helens on Friday at about noon, leaving Saturday.

Subject: Racing 2003 - Half Moon Bay Cruise

A benefit of the Windjammer is that it will be combined with a Half Moon Bay cruise on the way back for the racers.  Breaks the return trip into 2 days.  Cruisers could stop at HMB or come a day later.

cheers
