Shun-Feng - Iroquois 30 Mk II

"Yi-Fan, Feng-Shun"
"One sail, Wind flows in your direction"

The name of Bob Frank and Shinn-Yi's Iroquois 30 Mk II, Shun-Feng, comes from the 2000+ year old, four-character Chineese saying, "Yi-Fan, Feng-Shun", meaning literally, "One sail, Wind flows in your direction". Bob and Shinn-Yi took the name from a more modern usage of the saying, having the connotation of "Chill out" or "Go with the Flow".

Bob and Shinn-Ti acquired Shun-Feng from Peter Allen in May of 2002. They moved the former Waterbug from her home way up the Delta towards Sacramento to Coyote Point in the South Bay and re-Christened her Shun-Feng. Shun-Feng is one of the original production catamarans and was built in 1973.

The Iroquois 30 Mk II is only 30' long, but is constructed of solid fiberglass (with foam filled sections in both ends for 'unsinkability').  It has 4 berths (very snug, though), a galley and head in the hulls.  But it's really not that BIG of a cat.

The Iroquois 30 Mk IIs have transom hung rudders, daggerboards AND skegs on the back of each hull.  Bob plans to wack off the skegs this winter since the boat tacks like a Chevron tanker with them.  Evidently the designer added the skegs in the late '60's so the boat wouldn't rock back when beached (a lot of owners have removed them for better performance).

"Hey this is not Waikiki - I don't plan on beaching that often."

- Bob Frank
